CURRENT PROJECTS

WOOD FUEL SUPPLY

Stansted Airport, Essex
LC Energy has a 5 year contract with BAA to supply 3000 tonnes of premium grade wood chip per year from sustainably and locally sourced timber. This client required a fuel supply contract, production hub implementation, store design services and a reliable source of wood chip to use in their new boiler system which heats the entire terminal at the airport.

Flitch Green Primary School, Essex
Essex CC has embarked upon an ambitious Building for Schools Programme using wood fuel as the primary heat source for all new school developments. LC Energy was awarded a supply contract for approximately 50 tonnes of wood chip per year to a G30 W30 specification.

Abester Estate, Surrey
This is a new scheme for an existing refurbished private house in South West Surrey with an 80kW Frohling boiler. The client has woodland which will become part of the wood fuel supply chain and has taken first delivery in cubic metre bags.

Chase Bridge Primary School, Twickenham
The LEA school has installed a 150kW wood fuel boiler this summer. The fuel demand is approximately 100 tonnes of wood chip per year to a G30 W30 specification. In addition the school has adopted a broad approach to renewable technology by installing solar panels to complement the biomass system.

Birtley House Care Home, Surrey
This project is a privately owned care home which underwent a major refurbishment. The expansion of accommodation and balanced heat load created the ideal opportunity for the installation of a 200kW wood fuel boiler system which was commissioned in 2008. The fuel demand is approximately 220 tonnes of wood chip per year to a G30 W30 specification. There is also an opportunity to process timber into chip from their own surrounding woodlands.

Chobham Lakes, Surrey
This project is a new private dwelling property development with 54 houses and a 400kW wood fuel boiler. The fuel demand is approximately 400 tonnes of wood chip per year to a G30, W35 specification.

BIOMASS CONSULTANCY

BAA - Stansted Airport
Design services have been provided for the fuel store and fuel transfer solutions at Stansted Airport. The airport consumes up to 60 cubic metres of dry wood chip per day and requires a simple but robust method of continuous supply to ensure the terminal remains heated and the hot water requirements are met.

Civic Hall, Guildford, Surrey
This project is in detailed design stage for the complete replacement of the Civic Hall in Guildford. The base load heating will be provided by wood fuel.

The report commissioned by the client and its principal contractor Willmott Dixon focused on the critical elements of wood chip storage design, access and delivery and wood fuel supply which would be provided from a local source delivered under long-term contract.

Epping Primary School, Essex
This new school required design services from LC Energy to ensure a robust wood fuel strategy. The design consultancy was provide
d alongside the main project team and the boiler installer.

Millmead House, Guildford Borough Council
This review has been  by the borough council to assess the feasibility of using wood fuel from local resources to replace the base load heating for it head office in Guildford town centre.

The initial feasibility study has provided the scope of the biomass system, location of the boiler house and fuel store and an estimated cost plan for the delivered scheme. In addition the fuel supply logistics are provided with running costs and CO2 savings.

Albury Estate, Surrey

This project was a feasibility study to assess the added value of producing wood chips from estate woodland for the local market and its own wood fuel system. The estate has an annual woodland management scheme which produces 1500 tonnes of sustainable timber. A large proportion of this timber was sent by road haulage across the UK to be used as pulp for low grade chip board.

The study concluded that although the local market for wood chip was in its early stages in the UK, the value of creating a premium quality fuel from virgin timber not only contributed greater return to the estate but also significantly reduced their carbon footprint by avoiding the long road journeys.

Birtley House Care Home, Surrey
In addition to a wood fuel supply contract LC Energy provided consultancy on the fuel storage and access alongside the main project team to ensure that the client has a practical and cost effective operation.

Queen Boudica School, Essex
This new school required design services from LC Energy to ensure a robust wood fuel strategy. The design consultancy was provided alongside the main project team and the boiler installer.

BIOMASS PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Wood Fuel Hub, Essex
The wood fuel hub was launched in May 2008 and produce 4000 tonnes of premium grade wood chip from local sustainable timber supplies. The wood fuel hub delivers chip to the local market on 10-15miles radius.

Peaslake School, Surrey

LC Energy has completed the installation of a 50kW biomass pellet boiler in 2008 to replace an old and dilapidated oil fired heating system. The scheme has grant funding approved.

Wood Fuel Hub, Surrey

The wood fuel hub was launched on 27th November 2007 and having received planning consent will operate up to 3000 tonnes of premium grade wood chip from local land estate sustainable timber supplies. The wood fuel hub will deliver chip to the local market on 10-15miles radius.
