LC Energy will work with any land-owner from the initial stage of woodland planning to cutting, extraction and haulage and can provide all or some of these services if required. LC Energy links the timber growers to the heat users in a sustainable, local and long term manner to ensure that woodlands are managed effectively and responsibly and bring value to a much underutilised renewable resource. WHAT IS BIOMASS?
Biomass is biological matter from living or recently living organisms, most often referring to plants or plant-derived materials. As a renewable energy source, biomass can either be burnt directly to produce heat, or used indirectly and made into a bio-fuel. Wood remains the largest biomass energy source today, in the form of managed forest, residues such as branches and tree stumps, yard clippings, and wood chips among others. Wood fuel is versatile and can be burned in many different forms, and in a number of different appliances.
Humans have harnessed biomass-derived energy products since we began burning wood to make fire. Nowadays, we use biomass to produce two types of energy. The first is electricity (via steam turbines or gasifiers) and the second is heat (via direct combustion).
