The Biomass Suppliers List is also known as BSL. It was introduced in 2014 for wood fuel suppliers to register their fuel as sustainable. The government has introduced the scheme in order to make sure biomass meets their carbon and environmental objectives. All Renewable Heat Incentive participants must meet a lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions target of 34.8g CO2 equivilant of MJ heat produced. The BSL allows RHI participants to easily demonstrate to Ofgem that the fuel they are using meets RHI sustainability criteria, and they can thus claim their payments.
