Richard Southall of Overnoons Farm near Luggashall in West Sussex has also recently benefited from his association with LC Energy in the clearing of poplar from his woodland. Previously it had not been a viable consideration to attempt to remove the poplar but he was able to fell 800 tonnes of poplar this summer with LC Energy’s help.
Richard recalls “I have been very grateful to meet up with LC Energy because this has been a difficult area of timber to deal with. Poplar is a low grade wood, I have been looking for 10 years to try and find something to do with this crop. For me, the upshot of this is that I see an economic use that gives a viable and practical solution.”
Richard has a log batch boiler to heat his Sussex Farmhouse and he has seen significant savings in using logs from his own woodlands against heating oil. “It’s great, we load it up once or twice a day with logs from our own woods and it keep the house lovely and warm during the winter.”
