Heathrow Airport is the world’s busiest airport serving 84 countries with 75m passengers and 1.5m tonnes of freight passing through each year. Heathrow airport occupies 1,227 hectares of land with 2 runways and 5 terminals.
In 2010, LC Energy won an OJEU contract for exclusive supply of biomass fuel and engineering services over a 15-year agreement to BAA (now Heathrow Airport Ltd).
In 2012, Heathrow Airport built a new energy centre to provide power (2MW) and heat (8MW) from biomass across the airport, initially to Terminal 5 (opened in 2008) and Terminal 2 (opened in 2014) with further distribution to other parts of the airport over the next few years
