Biomass
Systems

We have the expertise, experience and management systems to service and maintain biomass boilers.

Biomass Systems

What Are
Biomass Systems?

Biomass heating systems use wood fuel to produce heat and have less of a negative effect on the environment than fossil fuels. This limited long-term effect is because carbon in biomass is part of the natural carbon cycle, whereas fossil fuels permanently add carbon to the environment when burned for fuel.

Before the use of fossil fuels in significant quantities, wood fuel provided most of humanity’s heating. Biomass boilers can be used as a direct replacement for a gas or oil boiler and can be linked to any existing wet central heating system, whether it be a radiator or under floor system or a combination of both.

The Benefits of
Biomass Heating Systems

The price of wood fuel historically has always been cheaper than LPG (gas) and oil.

Wood fuelled systems are eligible for RHI repayments. In principal both commercial organisations and private individuals now have a route to tariff payments (which help offset the capital cost of the equipment). There are eligibility criteria which we can advise on and can also be checked through such bodies as The Energy Saving Trust and Ofgem.

The carbon dioxide emitted when wood is burnt is the same amount that was absorbed over the lifetime of the tree’s growth.

Costs &
Savings

Costs of a biomass boiler depend on both size and boiler quality. The cost of a flue, fuel store, buffer tank and plumbing works should also be taken in to consideration if applicable. We can design a heating system to meet your requirements.

Savings will depend upon both the current fuel in use and relevant RHI tariff. Savings are more substantial for off grid gas (LPG), oil and electric heating. Savings in carbon dioxide emissions are very significant when a wood-fuelled boiler replaces a solid (coal) fired system or electric storage heating.

Servicing & Maintenance

You should ensure that your biomass boiler is serviced regularly, the majority of manufactures recommend servicing should be undertaken at least once a year according by a qualified engineer. For larger boilers additional interim services are also recommended.

We can offer ad-hoc service and maintenance agreements or long term contracts to suit your requirements. Please contact us to enquire about our engineering service and maintenance packages.

Deep Wood Fuel Store Clean

It is advised that you clean your wood fuel store annually to ensure you get the most from your biomass heating system. A well maintained system will achieve optimum combustion to provide you with economical, trouble free heating and hot water. LC Energy can provide a quick and efficient wood fuel store cleaning service by our team of trained engineers.

With our specialised equipment and experience we can ensure your fuel store is in optimum condition for re-stocking wood fuel in preparation for the winter. Please contact us to book a deep wood fuel store clean or find out more information.

Ash Removal & Disposal

Biomass boilers and stoves should be kept clean and swept regularly to remove ash. Ash quantities are generally very low. Many larger boilers feature automatic ash removal and cleaning so that minimal manual intervention is required. Wood ash can not be disposed of in normal refuse LC Energy can remove your ash and dispose of it in a environmentally friendly manner. Please contact us for more information.

Flue Inspection & Cleaning

For optimal boiler performance the flue should be swept at least once a year. We typically include flue inspection and cleaning as part of the major annual boiler service (dependant on suitable access). If you would like to book a flue clean outside of a major service please contact us.
