The government has launched its domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) today. Climate Change Minister Greg Barker unveiled the long-awaited scheme this morning, completing the rollout of the RHI, following the launch of similar incentives for commercial and public sector properties in November 2012.
Greg Barker predicted the RHI will spark a “domestic energy revolution”, cutting carbon emissions, curbing energy bills and providing a major growth opportunity for British industry. “This is the first scheme of its kind in the world – showing yet again that the UK is leading the way in the clean energy sector,” he said in a statement today. “Not only will people have warmer homes and cheaper fuel bills, they will reduce their carbon emissions, and will also get cash payments for installing these new technologies.”
“It opens up a market for the supply chain, engineers and installers – generating growth and supporting jobs as part of our long-term economic plan.”
