We have the expertise, experience and management systems to service and maintain biomass boilers, solar thermal systems and heat pumps across Southern England to all our customers in the public, private and commercial sectors.
Solar thermal systems use heat from the sun to either heat domestic hot water directly or indirectly through the circulation of an anti-freeze liquid – to better avoid the risk of the system freezing in the winter.
Solar thermal consists of evacuated tube collectors that have glass tubes containing metal absorber tubes, through which water is pumped. Each tube vacuums the air and it is ‘evacuated’ out which minimises heat loss.
Most solar systems are mounted on a roof, but they can also be mounted on the ground. It is not essential but it is advantageous for solar systems to face south to catch as much sunlight as possible, although they are still effective facing south east and south west.
The system works all year round, though you’ll need to heat the water further with a boiler or immersion heater during the winter months.
Sunlight is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your hot water costs will be substantially reduced. As a rule of thumb it is usually possible to provide up to 50% of your annual hot water use directly from the solar thermal system.
Solar thermal will reduce your carbon dioxide emissions.
Most solar thermal systems come with a five-year or ten-year warranty and require minimal maintenance other than keeping an eye on system pressure. Manufactures typically recommend that a solar thermal system is serviced annually by experienced engineers for optimum performance and reliability. Please contact us to enquire about our engineering service and maintenance for your system.
Savings can be significant – the system could provide most of your hot water in the summer, but much less during colder winter weather. Solar heating is also eligible for the government’s Renewable Heating Incentive scheme. To find out more, please contact us at info@lcenergy.co.uk or visit the Ofgem website.
