On Thursday 25th February, our Stock and Sustainability coordinator, Zander Dale, gave a virtual talk to MSc students studying Sustainable Development and Environmental Management at the University of Surrey.
The aim of the lecture was to discuss and stimulate ideas regarding LC Energy’s operations, our bespoke 13 Point Sustainability Strategy, our Net Zero Roadmap and the benefits of being ISO14001:2015 accredited.
It was also a fantastic opportunity to have an open discussion regarding Supply Chain Sustainability, as well as presenting potential future collaboration opportunities between LC Energy and the University of Surrey’s MSc students.
The talk gave a broad overview of LC Energy, the UK biomass industry and our place in the government’s plans to be Carbon Neutral by 2050. Covering topics including the necessity for Sustainable Woodland Management, improving air quality, reducing our environmental impact and advocating the utilisation for using biomass to decarbonise heat.
It also looked at future risks and opportunities including tree planting for carbon offsetting and Biodiversity Net Gain and how this links with our aim of creating a sustainable culture throughout our entire supply chain and beyond.
The discussion held with the students of the University of Surrey was a fantastic way to stimulate ideas and engage in an open conversation about supply chain sustainability, biomass and forestry.
